The Anglo-Saxon Social Model - The Expanded Universe

I guess like in the real world, a lot of traditional industry in Britain itself has gone out to the Commonwealth and financial services have replaced it?

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that a lot of factories have moved to other Commonwealth countries (notably Pakistan). No, in the sense that, as you'll have seen from the infoboxes on Commonwealth businesses, quite a lot of them are still based in the UK and have significant manufacturing and industrial plants there. I'd say that around 25-30% of the workforce are employed in industry and construction. The other difference is that TTL's UK is significantly less financialised than its OTL equivalent (which will be better explained in the updates for the rest of the week) and, as we've seen, other cities around the country have developed their own financial services so the industry isn't anywhere near as lopsided as OTL.

I did not set about creating the path towards a more multi-cultural UK only to have everyone eating meals of prawn cocktail, steak and black forest gateau...
True. Otherwise the Commonwealth will just be a gigantic version of Abigail's Party...

Just noticed...is Obama still President? Did the Orangutan not get into the White House?

Trump had a bit of a political moment in the late 1980s as a populist rabble-rouser, complaining about Commonwealth imports 'killing' American industry. He was eventually jailed in 1995 for securities fraud and money laundering.

Obama became president in 2012 and won re-election in 2016. Despite continuing popularity amongst the Progressive Party, Obama announced in 2018 that he won't be running for a third term and the Progressive and Republican primaries are both reaching a climax.

Okay, I want to emigrate through the inter dimensional portal to this ATL. Right now. Lock her up? No - he's locked up! Yay!

Did I miss something about US presidents being able to run for a third term ITTL? I'm not that up to speed with American politics but what are the rules ATL vs OTL?

They're allowed to run for as many as they like but the convention is that they don't serve more than two. (Basically OTL before the 22nd amendment.) As in OTL, FDR is the only person to actually serve more than two terms but JFK ran for a third term in 1972, losing to Nelson Rockefeller. Then there was a bit of a suggestion then that JFK had outstayed his welcome and opinion polls suggest that the public are not enthusiastic about presidents serving more than two terms but whenever there's a president coming to the end of their second term there's always a bit of speculation that they'll run for a third. (Bear in mind that because of the reduced power of the Senate and the change in House elections to every four years at the same time as Presidential ones means that presidents generally can implement their agendas.)

Is there a Commonwealth version of the Wayback Engine?

It won't have its own inbox but the answer is definitely. Try to imagine what a civil servant in the 1970s would be interested in to get an idea of some of TTL's internet's architecture...

Kaientai was a trading company?!
That's quite an interesting direction for a company to go in.

The idea is that it evolves into a zaibatsu and internet search engines eventually become one of its subsidiaries.
