The American Nightmare - What if America became a Dystopia?

After the failure that was the first American revolution, no one in the world could ever imagine a superpower rising in North America. But all their expectations where proven wrong when the American colonies rebelled once again in 1820. The new American rebels were able to defeat the British forces and even crush the loyalists in Canada. The British, realizing they're fighting a pointless war, sue for peace and all the American and Canadian colonies gain independence, uniting to form the American Federation. A strong united nation that wasn't brought down by the “fantastical ideas” of the first American revolutionaries. A country that would preserve the conservative values of the Western world.

In the years following the country's independence, America would launch a horrific campaign assimilation against all people deemed "non-American". This classification included the various native peoples in the country, Anglo-Canadians, Quebecois French, and later on Spanish-speaking Mexican Americans. Anyone who refused to be assimilate where either executed or deported to an internment camp in the northern territories to be forcibly reeducated. Under the manifest destiny policies of the imperialist government the Federation would expand it's borders by conquering land from it's neighbors. This Included the Republic of Louisiana in 1839, the northern states of Mexico in 1843, and Spanish colonies in the Caribbean in 1847.

The Federation would come close to collapsing in 1856 when Various northern Federates, who were against the imperialist direction the country was heading, seceded from the Federation and formed the Unified states of America, leading to the brutal American civil war. The civil war was a long a brutal conflict, mostly fought in New England, near the great lakes, and parts of Canada. The war would end in 1872 in a Federal victory with the US being annexed back into the Federation. The leaders of the Unified States were arrested and hung for treason against the Federation. In the years following the end of the civil war in, America would follow a policy of isolationism, not wanting to get involved in the messy politics of Europe.

The country would seek alliances with other powers on the American continents, such as Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, and Peru. Even going as far as helping them in taking out their enemies. Anyone on the continent that didn't comply with America would risk invasion from the Federation, such as the central American states who were all invaded and turned into the Federative republic of central America. By 1910, every independent country in the Americas was allied to the Federation and would establish the Pan-American alliance (Panam for short) in 1912 as a means of defending themselves against Europe. The Federation would stay neutral during the first world war, they had little reasons to join the conflict and had poor relations with both the entente and central powers. Despite the lack of American involvement, the entente still won the first world war, but the war doesn't end until 1919. Nothing too notable happened in the 1920s for America, but in 1930 they would experience a severe recession caused by the London stock market crash.

Millions of Americans were left jobless and the people would grow desperate for a solution. When World war two broke out in Europe, the Americans saw an opportunity to rebuild their economy by selling American weapons to the European countries. Since most Americans are not willing to give weapons to Britain, a historical enemy of the Federation, they instead start selling weapons to members of the Axis, mainly Germany and Italy. Due to the aid of American weapons, the Axis are able to fight the allies better and completely smash them during the north African campaign. With the fall of most of Europe to the axis, the Japanese Empire took advantage of the situation and invaded various European colonies in south east Asia. The Americans, concerned about japan expanding it's influence across Asia, decide to break their isolationist policy and declare war on the empire in 1942.

The Americans defeat the Japanese navy in the pacific and in late 1945 they launch an invasion of the Japanese home islands. Meanwhile in Europe, the war between the Germans and Soviets was at a stalemate. Both German and Soviet forces were too evenly matched to make any progress. In early 1946 the Americans produce a single nuclear bomb, which they drop on Tokyo. The resulting nuclear blast kills the entire Japanese royal family, which results in the Japanese army taking over the government.

The war against Japan continues for another 4 months before the last of the Japanese army is carpet bombed into submission. The Japanese empire's puppets are turned into American satellite states and the home islands are under intense military occupation. In the 1950s America kick starts a terrifying campaign of assimilation against the Japanese people. Even going as far as allowing Americans from the mainland to move to Japan for free, in an attempt to make the population of white Americans outnumber the native Japanese.

In 1955, the Federation launches a military occupation of the British Isles, fearing the possibility of the United Kingdom falling under the sphere of the Nazis. The British, who had barley recovered from their defeat in the second world war, had no choice but to surrender to the Americans. Britain’s colonies in Africa, Asia, and America are also occupied and some are turned into satellite states. That same year, the Nazi nuclear program is completed, and Germany produces their first nuclear bomb in August 1955. The Germans drop their bomb on Moscow, destroying a large section of the Soviet government resulting in the western part of the country capitulating to the Germans.

The surviving members of the USSR government flee past the Urals and establish a communist state in exile called the Siberian Soviet Socialist Republic. Although western Russia had fallen to the Nazis, the brave Russians living there did not give up the fight against fascism and started a guerrilla war against the German army. This guerrilla war proves to be a taxing campaign by the Reich and German war focus shifts from taking out the Siberians to attempting to crush the rebels in Russia. With the Greater German Reich bogged down in a guerrilla war, the American Federation became the sole superpower and had an iron grip over most of the world. Many Americans believed that the Federation would rise to become the dominant world power.

Little did they know that only a decade later the world would be trusted into another global conflict that nearly destroyed humanity as they knew it.

The American States looked like this during the height of the Federation's power in 1960.

Mmh, WW2 still happening on schedule despite the uncountable ripple effects of a later independent America including Canada. That's quite the butterfly genocide.
I take it some post on the American Federation's domestic policy and policy for the occupied territories are still to come?

I plan on making future maps of what the rest of the world in this timeline looks like, and I might explain the laws and policies of the federation are in that future post.
