The American Empire, Part One - Eagle Rising

The purpose of this thread is to write about how the changes of this ATL affected several different individuals. It'll probably be more like a story than an actual time-line.My first few posts will be the actual time line and then I will carry on with the world from certain character's views. This WON'T be that historically accurate or true to life but I'll try my best. I also don't know whether the following wars are clichés, but I do know that this thread will contain mild (maybe stronger) Ameriwank and Britwank. But they are sort of important components to the thread.

1940's

1945

15th, August - The Japanese Empire surrenders to the Allies. The territories of the nations are returned to them. US forces occupy the Southern part of Korea and Japan and the Soviets occupy the northern half of Korea and also Hokkaido and a bit of north Japan.

16th, August - The British emerge from the war far less battered than in our Original Time-Line. They go about securing their colonies in case any of the natives think that the UK is weak and can be taken advantage of.

1947

17th, June - The Soviet Union officially annex their occupation zone of Japan and make it the Japanese Soviet Socialist Republic.

15th, August - The British Raj is broken and divided into the Dominion of Pakistan, the Union of Burma and the Confederate Raj of India.

22nd, November - The United States of America, in response to this annexation of Northern Japan, officially make South Korea and South Japan into states of the USA. There are many protests, all of which are suppressed by the US Army. The Americans believe that after a while of being part of the United States, the Japanese will grow to like it.

1948

7th, March - Japanese monarchist terrorists start a violent campaign against the American occupiers.

?th, June - The Malayan Communist War starts. The initial war happens after communists, lead by the Malayan Communist Party, take over Malaysia. The British respond in full force, fighting hard against the new regime. The communist regime is supported by the Soviet Union. The British lose a few squads within the end of the year, but nothing too serious.

11th, September - The Indo-Pakistani Wars start with a conflict known as the First Kashmir War start between Pakistan and the Confederate Raj over who owns the region of Kashmir. Pakistan invades Kashmir in a sudden strike, hoping to overwhelm the Raj. It captures many prisoners.

1949

25th, May - India pushes back the Pakistanis to the original borders. Casualties on both sides are high as many commanders are still using human wave tactics in their battleplans.

1st, July - The fighting in the Malayan Communist War starts to spill out into Thailand, with Communists accidentally taking land and setting up base in southern Thailand. The Thai government demands compensation from the Malayan Communist Party, as of yet, no reply has been given.

21st, December - The citizens of the USA are becoming surprisingly over-confident on their country's ability to influence the world and it looks as if a concept of Manifest Destiny may creep in to the American culture.

There is no way that the United States would formally annex any parts of Japan and South Korea, for many reasons. These are very proud, very angry people here who will not want to be told "Yeah, you're Americans now." They will almost certainly resist that.

ASBs are required to make American people want to annex that many non-english speaking whities into the country, the US didn't annex the Philippines for good reasons.

Still though, interesting TL, will we see more parallels between the US and Rome (which also only reluctantly annexed non-Italian territories)? It would be more plausible if the US simply extended the occupational government indefinitely.

I suggest at least first having Japan as a Commonwealth of America (think Phillipines and Puerto Rico), until sometime in the 80s or 90s before annexing them. The butterflies should be sufficient for what you want (I think).

Annex Korea or Japan? Not a chance in Hades.

Allow the USSR to Annex Hokkaido. Not a thousandth of the chance of the U.S. doing it.

Phone call to Moscow:

"This is Stalin."

"Mr. General Secretary, this is Harry Truman. One god damned Red Army soldier sets foot on Hokkaido and I'm going to drop a atom bomb down the Kremlin's chimney. Good bye."

Who's to say the the Americans haven't become total pussies in regard to the USSR in this TL? :p:rolleyes:

Can't you people be a little more supportive? Half the time, when somebody comes up with an idea that might be a little too cliche, you jump all over them.

Now, for a little constructive critisism on my behalf; in order to be admitted as a state, said state must have a republican form of government. The Constitution doesn't clarify whether it has to be a presidential system, so it could be semi-presidential or parliamentary. The last seems the mostly likely for Japan. Anyway, both these pieces of land where under the "rule" of a monarch (and I use the term rule rather loosely in the case of the Japanese Emperor), so a great deal of reform is in order. Turning southern Korea and Japan into protectorates would seem the plausable move. That's just my opinion.

Anyway, carry on with your timeline in whichever manner you wish.
