FYI coming soon will be a full map and write up from a very generous group member. In the meantime feel free to speculate if you have already or havent done so yet.

We would see tens of millions of refugees fleeing from areas that are what we now call "Red States". We can safely assume that most of them would be conservative christians, and many (if not most) of the states to which they relocate would be more liberal and secular. This would affect the internal politics of many states - at the very least, leading to more closely contested elections and possibly even turning some Blue states Red. It's conceivable that this could affect national electoral politics and the D/R balance of the Senate, tilting both toward the Republican end. I can't think of many scenarios that would benefit the liberal/Democratic demographic.

The event might be so catastrophic and mind-shattering that it is likely most Americans will stop thinking in terms of the Democratic / Republican dichotomy. For starters, most of the displaced people would have lost everything, no matter how Christian/Conservative they might be, I'm willing to bet a shiny new dime that most will embrace even the most heavy-handed welfare protections to ease their immediate problems (anything from government housing programs to straight-up nationalization of the Nebraska Sea resources). The oil, gas, agricultural, and beef industries straight up just lost all 90% or more of their assets, and with them, most of their lobbying power, shifting the power balances and political careers (including re-election prospects) of many representatives.

Regardless of which political party is in office, some emergcy-powers will immediately be granted to the person in charge, and a great deal of centralization is likely to take place. The remaining land of the states around the Nebraska Sea might revert to an unofficial "territory-like" status to better address the crisis. Other states have simply disappeared off the map. This will create pushback from the opposition. And there will be enough fertile ground for conspiracies/opportunists factions to even create a viable third, fourth, and more political Parties in the US (or centralize everything into a single party).

Right. Coupled with the presence and influence of the Soviet Union and other communist and socialist countries in the world I can see this scenario resulting in a much more left wing US.Much less religious and much more socialist....

Here’s a geographic map of it from a previous thread.

(And the previous thread)
is there a map anywhere that shows this overlaid with the current US states outlines? Am curious as to just what cities/states get drowned...

The state boundaries are (very faintly) outlined in red in that map.
As for cities, it looks like the DFW area is either beachfront or just barely underwater, and we lose everything between there and central North Dakota (except Fargo, surviving as it's too far east), with the Missouri river as the sea's eastern edge along Iowa, etc.

only part of it; the new sea part and everything west of it doesn't seem to have it...

and despite all this bounty I still wish there was more from this world especially about the Great Nebraska Sea region itself, map, info even a timeline/story.

I think that North America would be made like this, in my humble opinion:

It could be as such because the push towards the West, the Manifest Destiny, in the presence of maritime obstacle can't be done ...

I could see that if the Great Nebraska Sea formed in 1773 or even 1873 but in 1973 ?
