So assume the South won the US Civil War. CS Presidential elctions would be coming in 1867 and per the CS Constitution, Jefferson Davis could not run again. So, who's the most likely candidate for number 2?

.) General Robert E. Lee? This is the most obvious and cliché option, and for fairly obvious reasons. Had he run, he'd win, and win handedly. The man's popularity in the South was rivaled only by the likes of George Washington and Napolean Bonaparte. However, whilst he was beloved, he didn't seem particularly interested in politics. Further, he actually would've died just 2 years into his term, 1870. Does he run despite his advanced age in 67?

.) General Nathan Bedford Forrest? Not an idea i've heard many times, but certainly a possibility. Forrest had much higher political aspirations that Lee, and was also a very polular "war hero" in the eyes of the Confederate populace. His ideas seem to line up well with what a Confederate populace might support. However, I wonder, even with a Southern victory, if Forrest might be a little to radical for the voting South. He was, after all, the KKK's first Grand Wizard.

.) Senator Judah P. Benjamin? This is an incredibly intriguing possibility to me, as I feel Benjamin had more of a grasp on the pragmatics of politics than any other option. He was, of course, CS Secretary of State and best buds with one Jefferson Davis, the first CS president. I don't know if Southern racialism applied to Jews, but if it did, I imagine that that would be quite the political hurrdle. As a founding father of the CSA, however, Benjamin may be exempt from that kind of bannter. What say ye?

.) CSA Vice-President Alexander Stephens? Stephens is interesting because his views are the most in line with our (the USA's) own founding fathers. He was kind of like a Confederate Ron Paul, in that sense, and he was also the first Vice-President of the CSA and a Confederate founding father. He doesn't appear to be a popular option amongst Alt-hist writers, but he seems like a very logical one.

.) Some other candidate? Maybe James Longstreet or John C. Breckinridge? Maybe Jefferson Davis again? Through some constitutional fanagling of course. John Bell maybe? Let me know what you guys think!
