The 15 Commandments.

Fair enough. What about my broader point regarding interpretation of that commandment?

Well, I do see how some would see that as "Become a vegetarian". However, you can eat meat and still love/respect the thing you eat. My dad is a perfect example. He hunts, but always does so with respect. He doesn't use bait, or traps or fancy devices. he just uses his rifle (sometimes bow) and wits. He never takes a shot unless he knows it will be an instant kill, for he doesn't want it to suffer. He uses EVERYTHING from the animals body, and what he can't use (IE: parts that you can't eat without getting sick), he takes out into the woods and dumps it in an area where he know scavengers will find it. He even uses the bones and antlers to make things (he has this cool home made Bottle Opener made from an Antler).

As long as you treat an animal with respect and kill it humanely, I don't think that eating meat would violate that commandment.

Okay, the whole point of Alternate History is "What if...".

What if the hebrews had these commandments, which they believed where from God? Then they would CHANGE their society. Their society was based off of the teachings of God. You guys are acting as though the teachings of God are based off of Hewbrew society.

For the sake of what I originally intended, say that God sent these commandments down (I don't think it is ASB, but if you guys do, go ahead).

((God, i swear this site is to obsesed with probability)).

It's not really probability, it's just that because this website has people of different religions we suspend our religious persuasions when we contruct TLs and ask WIs. These persuasions can, however, manifest themselves in wanks once we get our TLs and WIs off the ground (hence, as a Catholic, why I love them crazy Habsburgs).

Also, I feel I should point out that God is not an idiot, and from a theological standpoint he did give commandments that were in part based on the circumstances of the Israelites at the time. If he gave them the rules you set down the Amalekites or someone like them would have wiped them out before they even got to Canaan.

Your father seems like a good and responsible hunter.

People ignore them for the most part.
I agree with that.

IMHO (and I only say this in an attempt to further the topic, not to be rude or bigoted though I am sure that some people will be offended by what is about to be read), those that would listen to them would probably manipulate them to suit their political needs: Like many politicians, Yĕhōšuă‘/Jesus (if one believes in his historical existence) and Muḥammad/Muhammad were probably either not that bright, mentally ill, very charismatic, never existed &/or were megalomaniacs.

Indeed; if I were to hunt, I would do so with a sling/bow/staff sling/kylie and use every part of the animal: I would love to be able to carve antler as skillfully as the person described.

Okay then. Let's assume (for the sake of argument and debate) that these were given to the people by God himself. As in NOT from things already existing within society at the time.

If the Hebrew (and eventual Christian and Muslim) people follow these new commandments, how would history play out?

So God decides He wants to order Bronze Age herdsmen and subsistence farmers to try to live their lives around 21st Century platitudes?

What happens is massive confusion. Yeshua ben Achoriach is going around wondering what the heck 'submit to the fact that you are not dead' means.

The end result is that esoteric element in Judaism gets even more amped up. The argument that scripture means what it says is obviously barmy when the literal words of scripture are obviously barmy.

I do see your point. I suck at making WIs.

Thanks. He is awesome.

I'm pretty sure that Jesus and Muhammad were real historical figures.

It was so cool when he showed it to me. However, he just carved/smoothed the antler to make a handle. He attatched the metal bit at the end to open bottles.

All right, I get it, it's a bad idea.

Now I feel bad. If you wanted to rework the idea, you'd just need to clarify what specific effects you are trying to get and then have God provide the context for the commandment. So instead of 15 Commandments you'd have the 10 Commandments and the 5 Really Long Paragraphs.
