Texas, Quebec and Napoleon

I've often wondered what if the British won Yorktown? Here is my Senario: Howe secretly marches behind Washington and the French army. This Effectively traps Washington. Britains navy defeat the French and begin to fire at the Americans. Howe attacks Washingtons rear while Cornwallis attacks the front. Washington is forced to surrender being totally surrounded. The Continental Congress is hunted and is either captured or killed. I can see a few members like Aaron Burr fleeong west. Most are taken hostage. Congress is forced to Surrender.

1803 -Napoleon still rises to power
-Moses Austin gains permission to settle Texas from the Spainish among those recruited is Andrew Jackson
-1810 Texas Revolt against Spain
1813-Napoleon wins Waterloo and Quebec along with New England declare indepence
1815- Texas gains indepence.

In this timeline Texas is alot more aggressive. Id compare them to Prussia post 1860 in OTL. Andrew Jackson would have been General if Texas forces during the Revolution and 1st President. Texan territory wold include California

Quebec and Texas would be recognized by France and their Sovereignty would be garunteed bh Napoleon if any thing else to show his power over the British

Not a completed timeline, but is this at at all plausible?

In the defeated US, Britain would immediately install a military Governor but eventually establish an Anglo- American Parliament to allow some symbolic self- government in the colonies, while military decisions would be made by London. Former rebels would flock to Qubec and Texas. Even if the British government forbade settlers to establish farms and villages near the Mississippi, Those that despised British rule, ie Andrew Jackson, would settle in Texas. When the War of Texas Indepence breaks out Jackson would stand out. He would rise quickly and i can easily see him as Commander in Chief of all Texas forces. Jackson would be relentless, using hit and run tactics as well as "Total War" stategies of William T. Sherman in our Timeline. Jackson as well as most british settlers in Texas would see any European power as hostile. A Imperial Nationalistic party would almost certainly be created and hold most of the power. I don't see slavery as big an issue in this timeline as in ours, mainly because the British would ban the institution much earlier. And with Napoleon winning Waterloo, he would most certainly have an interest in keeping North America as fragmented as possible. So recognising Texas would be plausible.

So, the concept of French client states in Texas and Quebec is an interesting one, but it seems like you’re falling into the same trap that catches a lot of new AH writers: you’re assuming that history will go the exact same way as OTL except where you’ve directly made changes. Leaving aside the plausibility of Howe completely destroying the revolutionary forces or of Texas and Quebec being able to successfully revolt without the US existing, it’s unlikely that the French Revolution would happen the same way in a world where the American one fails. It might not happen at all, or it might happen in such a way that Napoleon never comes to power—and even if he does, the war in Europe certainly won’t go the exact same way all the way to the Battle of Waterloo.

There are definitely ways for this scenario to happen—it’s not “ASB” that North American breakaway republics might form without the US, or that France might support them against Britain—but the way you’re describing it right now requires history to be linear and predetermined in a way that it really isn’t.

Not really, without the the US forming you still have the Louisiana Territory between the colonies and Texas and the Spanish aren't gonna like Americans settling that either. You'd also need to change a lot more in the Napoleonic Wars, Waterloo is often overstated in importance. It was a crucial battle yes, but it wasn't THE crucial battle. It's Napoleon's last gasp, but even if he had won he probably would of lost soon after.

One last nitpick, Howe resigned from North America four years before the battle of Yorktown.

"I've often wondered what if the British won Yorktown? Here is my Senario: Howe secretly marches behind Washington and the French army."

Whoa! The enthusiasm is appreciated but people really should do some basic research before posting here. I suggest at least checking out the OOBs at Yorktown, which are linked to in the Wikipedia article. And neither Howe brother had been anywhere near North America for a couple years. Yeah, you could do a successful relief expedition because this was tried, but that would be hard work since it never got off the ground for pretty good reasons.

Cornwallis had a ally in New York preparing for a major battle there. Thats why Washington went south. He sent Layfeate first to harras Cornwallis long enough that he'd make a mistake. He did. With his supplies running low, Cornwallis decieded to set up winter quarters in Yorktown, confident the his allies would either march south himself or send the rest of the British fleet to get Cornwallis to New York. It never happened. The French were able to make the British Naval task force flee the bay, and then Washington ordered the seige to begin.

But yes your right. Howe returned to England in 1780 and was made a Vuscount. I was mistaken

But if the revolution failed, would we see several different nations form and declare independence in what would be the US? Unless the British gave the colonies some kind of limited autonomy, there would be alot of former patriots that absolutely hated Great Britain, people like Andrew Jackson, even if the Spanish wouldn't give Moses Austin his Empersidioship, I still think that a part of the Colonies would still try to gain Independence. Might we see a more Balkanized north America today? Instead of a melting pot, more of a powder keg? What ever the British do, its clear that they have to be very cautious and would most likely still have to fight rebel cells

How would Napoleon rise to power with no American Revolution?

The American Revolution would still happen. The French still goes almost bankrupt for supporting it. The only difference is the British outmanuver the Patriot/Allied force and Washington surrenders at Yorktown. The Revolution would be effectively lost. In France I think Napoleon would still rise to power. The only question is would a more violent uprising lead to him being named emperor sooner or later?
