what could Germany gain from USSR if they offered an armistice after a speculative fall of Leningrad in Dec '41?
view that as consensus pick over any possible capture of Moscow, and of course if Moscow falls Germany would not be discussing armistice but pursuing a total victory.
the rationale they decide they have dealt huge blow to Soviet offensive capability and want to extract resources for "free" and turn back West quickly after declaring war on the US.
not drawing a map that limits discussion, from my view the oil region is so far away that it might as well have been on the moon?
think a realistic goal would have been to obtain for themselves or have scuttled the Soviet flotillas at Murmansk, Black Sea and Baltic, in that way they have complete freedom of movement by sea?
they need a line to at least Volkhov River in the north, and to Odessa in the south? Hitler harped on Crimea being an aircraft carrier for the Soviets, not sure if they would concede that though?
