Tenka Fubu
Oda sat in his palace and painted. He was well on his way to ruling Japan and his armies marched in Shibata to the north and Hakataka to the south. He was the most powerful man in Japan. As he was painting one of his most trusted generals Niwa Nagahide burst in and bowed deeply "Oda, we have confirmed that Akechi Mitsuhide is leading a force of men to depose you on orders from Tokugawa." Oda nodded his head and stood "Thank you Niwa, gather an army as soon as possible. My men and I will hold as long as we can, but hurry." Nagahide bowed again and quickly ran off; Oda pulled out his sword and marshaled his forces to prepare for battle. When Akechi and his men surrounded the castle Oda prepared to fight for his life. Just as Akechi prepared to charge Nagahide returned and smashed into Akechi's rear, startling the soldiers who didn't expect much of a fight. Akechi and his men were routed and in the confusion Akechi was captured by Nagahide's troops.
After the battle Akechi was bound and brought before Oda. "Akechi, we have defeated your puny attempt at killing me. What do you have to say for yourself?". Akechi stared at Oda with a piercing glare but said nothing; "Fine." said Oda "I sentence you to death!" Akechi let himself get dragged away and was beheaded in the palace garden. After Akechi was defeated Oda then turned his wrath to the Tokugawa clan who supported Akechi. He led his army down to Yoshida where the Tokugawa clan was and leveled the city. Oda spared nobody and when word finally reached Tokugawa Ieyasu in Osaka; he broke his alliance with Oda and seized Osaka for revenge. Oda retaliated by sending his most trusted general Toyotomi Hideyoshi with a force of 20,000 men to defeat Tokugawa and bring the man before Oda. Hideyoshi managed to get someone inside the city before his army arrived and when he attacked, they opened the gates. Hideyoshi and his men flooded in and soundly defeated Tokugawa and captured him in the process; he was now a prisoner of war in his own country.
Oda was again trying to finish the painting that was interrupted by the attempted assassination when the plump Tokugawa stumbled in and fell on his knees before his former lord. "Oda once again put down his paint brush and looked at the man before him "Tokugawa, you were one of my top generals, why did you attempt to kill me?" Tokugawa looked surprised "I did not order such an action, I tried to come to your aid but was told not to by one of my brothers who followed me." Oda thought hard and after some time he made his decision "Tokugawa Ieyasu, I banish you to the southern isles of Kyushu." Tokugawa bowed and rose from his knees. Just as he started to leave two guards came and escorted him out of the castle and to a waiting caravan to transport him there.
Oda then proceeded to slowly conquer the surrounding dynamos and declared himself Shogun of Japan in 1601. Oda Nobunaga died peacefully in his sleep on September 8th, 1609 at the age of 75. His son Oda Nobokatsu took the throne and took his fathers views on the encroaching Europeans. Nobokatsu met with Portugal and allowed them to open up trade posts around the country and inland. Portugal now had exclusive rights to a new foreign market and they squeezed it for all it was worth. Gunsmiths from Portugal came and taught the Japanese how to make guns and ammo for their armies. Nobokatsu rapidly westernized Japan as much as he could and before his generals could protest, the Shogunate was over. When two generals started to conspire to overthrow Nobokatsu the Portuguese found out and told Oda, Oda then used them as an example of what possible rebels would meet if they were found out. Nobokatsu's reign was mostly uneventful and so were his descendants until 1890 when Oda Nokatsu took power. By this time the US and Britain replaced Portugal as the dominant powers in Japan. Nokatsu, under influence from his top generals, decided to barr all foreign influence in Japan. In the years since Nobokatsu the Japanese Navy/Army had rapidly modernized and had become a formidable foe.
Britain and US declared war on Japan in the 1st War of Japanese Aggression and used warships already in harbor shelled the cities. The Japanese people reeled in surprise before retaliating in full force. The Japanese Navy attacked the harbored ships before they could leave and sunk them. The Japanese Army also landed in Hong Kong and seized the city from the British. The British then mobilized their forces in India and the many merchant ships in the East India Company to prepare an invasion of the Japanese Homeland. The Japanese Navy tried to stop them but were double-teamed into submission at the Battle of the Japanese Sea. With no naval buffer the Japanese basically shoved rifles into peasants hands and told them to shoot at the invaders...with predictable results. It wasn't long before the Japanese Army was on the run and the British had captured Nokatsu, forcing him to surrender. Under the surrender terms the Japanese were to leave Hong Kong, dismantle the Shogunate and pay reparations to Britain and the US. Japan's economy collapsed in 1898 and the reparation money stopped flowing. When confronted by the US and Britain Nokatsu simply told them that Japan was unable to pay its own bills let alone the money they owe. The US agreed to forgive the Japanese of their debts and the British did to, if they could station troops in their country.
