Ten Prime Ministers we never had

Curzon of course
Indeed. Curzon was actually the Magic Circle's choice in 1923, but he refused because by then the tradition the PM can't be a Peer was maturing, and he didn't want to go against it. Balfour also hinted he would prefer Baldwin, and his word still carried a lot of weight.

This reminds me of the story about Sir Alec Douglas Home:

Man: "My wife and I always thought it a shame you were never Prime Minister."

ADH: "As a matter of fact I was, but only for a little while."

That’s got to be the most awesome put down in history!
:D

Rab Butler, the perennial DPM, Ian Macleod (one of the few One Nationals Thatcher liked, which was mutual), perhaps Peter Thorneycroft. Thatcherism a decade earlier? ;)

I'm turning socialist....

Keir Hardie
Nye Bevin
Hugh Gaitskell
George Brown

but also add :-

David Steel
Hugh Grimmond

George Brown would be drunk all the time!!!! But it would be funny!!!!
Roy Jenkins either as Labour Leader after Wilson retires in 1972 after a 1970 victory. Wilson was sent on retiring then, and Jenkins would have been the clear front-runner. Or you could have him with the SDP in 1983 or 84 if the Falklands goes wrong.
Ian Macleod's death just a month after the 1970 victory when he was Chancellor doomed Heath, many think that with Macleod alive Heath would not have made many of the mistakes he did in 1972,73. Heath wins re-election in 1975, and retires say 1977, 78 Macleod wins the leadership election, he would only be 62 or 63.

Quick note - Wilson was certainly set on retiring by/at the age of 60, as he did in OTL. This also happened to mark ten years in power for him. However, if he was younger, I can see him surviving a full, "historic third term" ;).

Was Jenkins well enough liked / known at the time, though?

I agree with Ming 100%. No more Castro-loving, Tory Constitution-wrecking, socialistic, anti-American, draft-dodging Pierre Trudeau.
