Last time a week was just fine. If enough people seem to be in favor of extending the time, I don't mind. Take into consideration that it took us 2 months to finish it last time (although obviously many people didn't use their whole week, finishing earlier)

We could even have each list fork at some point in the middle, so no single map is riffed on by too many people but we still end up with a bunch of simultaneous cartographers.

I can re-arrange the lists so it's four people, then it branches to four/three people again.

I wouldn't mind it perhaps branching off later? I think the main length ideally should be around 10.

If you branch off later, you get two very short branches. We can't really reduce the total number of branches unless I make a new map to start over, since the three starting players already got the map.

I think 8 per list is a good middle ground, it ensures the game is unlikely to last more than a month-a month and a half, and it's large enough from experience that some really fun divergence can happen.
