I would beg to differ on whether there was a deal with Reagan and the Iranians nothing in politics occurs the very day of the an inauguration. It certainly benefited Reagan who might have won anyway but it might have been really close if the Algiers accords would have been concluded in October of 1980 instead of 1981.

The Truman elections of 1948 were certainly influenced by Harry Truman's connections to the Mafia from his days in Kansas City while certainly Nixon benefited from the Watergate break in which was all about Nixon's paranoia concerning money matters with the DNC according to John Dean.

When discussing Presidential politics, the discussions are never clean for just ask the 81,000 disenfranchised A/A voters whose votes were never counted in Florida in 2000.

If your accusations are true, then things are pretty ominous for the future of American politics. But you don't have proof, you are merely echoing the views of conspiracy theorists, which is contrary to site rules.

One thing to keep in mind here

is that the rescue attempt was in April. The election in November.

That's a long time for any rosy post-rescue glow to fade, and be replaced by an electorate more concerned with the lousy economy, the high price of gas, and double-digit inflation.

I think a rescue gets Carter some more votes, but he still loses. Maybe 48%-43% instead of 50-41. And he picks up a few states. But not enough.
