Teddy Roosevelt dies from his Pittsfield Accident

In September 1902, Teddy Roosevelt was in an accident that killed ome of his secret service agents and injured him. His wounds were infected but he recovered without too much trouble and life went on.

Suppose he dies. He has no VP, so his sec of state, John Hay, becomes President under the rules of the time.

However, John Hay had heart problems, and was due to die in 1905, so even if he ran in 1904, he’d die soon after winning.

So, we could end up with a scenario of 3 presidents dying in a short period of time.

The guilded age might past a bit longer which would have interesting reprocussions; an earlier great depression, perhaps?

Maybe William Jennings Bryan would have
been elected President in 1904, the Alton
B Parker nomination of course being butter-
flied away(IOTL, TR's progressive policies did
much to cut the ground out from under WJB;
no TR presidency, this would not have happened plus in 1904 Bryan would have had the luxury of running against a G.O.P.
candidate who probably, unlike TR, would not have been very appealing)

I think the circumstances surrounding those two periods in history were so utterly incongruent that it would be hard to draw a straight line between them.
