What if, instead of going to the Amazon, Teddy Roosevelt decides that he's the best man to drag Alaska into statehood - the man did love challenges, after all.

or would a better time be in place of his trip to Africa?

"Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" - TR doesn't get appointed Civil Service Commissioner, and decides to tour Europe with his friend William "Buffalo Bill" Cody instead.

Age wise it might be better if TR hooked up with 'Colonel' Samuel Cody, the flamboyant aerial showman of the early 20th century.

North to Alaska

Teddy Roosevelt would team up with Jim McCord and George Pratt to fight the bad guys as he did with Bronco Layne and Tenderfoot in Bronco-The Yankee Tornado. He would be somehow written into the script of North to Alaska.

Seriously, he could have prepared Alaska for statehood earlier than 1957 and lead Alska from a territory to union and possibly made a come back by 1916 or even be remembered for doing something constructive on a limited scale. Who knows maybe he'd live a bit longer

Well, he avoids the leg infection and malaria that eventually killed him OTL for one...unless ATL he's hit by frostbite and/or hypothermia instead.

I could really see him doing this, particularly if there's some impetus to, such as an old Rough Rider friend tries Alaska and sends him glowing reports of the natural unspoiled beauty of the land.
