Taylor takes the fleet.

In the Spring of 1864 during the disastrous Red River Campaign, the Union armies of General Nathaniel P. Banks fought against the combined Louisiana/Texas/Arkansas forces of Confederate Generals Richard Taylor and Edmund Kirby Smith for control of the remainder of Louisiana.

The goal of this invasion was to capture East Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana along with most of CS-held Louisiana outside of New Orleans. After the Confederates defeated Banks' advance at Mansfield and Pleasant Hill a stranded fleet of gunboats and an ironclad (IIRC) are stuck in the river heights above Alexandria, Louisiana. IOTL the lost chance to capture the fleet haunted Taylor for the rest of his life.

WI, Taylor capitalized on the opportunity to get the fleet in time for Smith's movement to counter General Steele's offensive into Arkansas?

This won't likely change the outcome of the war, but it certainly changes the Trans-Mississippi theatre.
