Taiping Rebellion successful

What would the long term affects of a successful Taiping rebellion? Hong Xiuquan becomes emperor.

So total Taiping take-over of China? I assume vie the Taiping capturing Beijing in one of their earlier assaults, perhaps if they don't pause their campaign for several months after taking Nanjing. The OTL attack on Beijing in 1865 seems to be too late - though they nearly took the imperial capitol, the Taiping had lost most of their own territory and armies by that point. As to the affects?... Holy crap, butterflies, butterflies, butterflies.

Are there any good Taiping victory TLs? As to long term affects I expect something akin to what happened when the communists took over with short term disaster but long term improvement.

I would say they might be able to create a nation but they would not be able to conquer all of China. After all the Taiping were far from the only serious revolt plaguing the Qing at this time.

Best case scenario would be for the Taiping to follow European Christianity so one nation would be willing to put significant aid into the rebels. The other European powers would probably help the other revolting movements if they could be controlled.

Yes, search for "All About My Brother": extremely high quality timeline.

That's gonna be awfully hard when you've got the leader of the movement claiming to be Jesus' little brother and other leaders claiming to be the voices of Jesus and Yahweh. There is a very good reason why the initially overjoyed Europeans ("Christian Chinese? Huzzah!") chose the Qing over a bunch of loony heretics and their pirate/criminal allies.

Why bother with that when the Qing where already bending over backwards currying European favor to help put down the revolt? Much easier to support the ruling devil you know than the rebellious devil you don't.

I have loads of books (mainly contemporary accounts) on the Taiping Rebellion and the Opium Wars. I'm knee deep in the civil war at the moment but I plan to tackle both in the future.
