Taft Re-election

The Premise is that while on Safari in Africa, Roosevelt is killed while hunting one the big game animals (Rhino, Elephant, w/e, gun jams and he's trampled). His body is brought back to the US and buried in a state Funeral in New York. This all happens fairly late in the Safari and most of Roosevelt's book is written, all but a few of the OTL Animals are hunted. The animal that killed Roosevelt is killed and mounted at the New York Natural History Museum in Honor of him.

Taft and the Republican party get a big boost in the polls due to Roosevelt's death and his popularity, Taft wins reelection despite a large portion of his party not really supporting his polices.

so...how would the US involvement or lack thereof in WW1 go?

I don't see how it's ASB, maybe a bit unlikely, but not particularly hard to achieve, and gave a reason for his win.

plus i'm not asking about him getting reelected, I'm asking about his stance on WW1 and how he would react to similar situations that Wilson did.

BLASPHEMY!!!

Don't you know death could only take Theodore Roosevelt in his sleep?!

On topic; I don't know if Taft could beat Wilson even without Teddy. Perhaps there will still be a Progressive movement, with Bob LaFollette or Hiram Johnson. I could see one of TR's sons make a speech like RFK at the '64 convention and then putting more fire in their bellies; cutting down Taft as in OTL and keeping most progressive-minded voters on their side.

On the other hand, if Taft wins, the Aldrich bill, which was like FRA, apparently gave more power and responsibility to private banker, could bump the Federal Reserve Act. If passed, the Aldrich act could precipate an earlier depression.

Also, if Nicholas Butler becomes veep, it would significantly weaken the president's strength in the Senate.

In otl, Taft had set up the League to Enforce Peace, advocating that the nation stay neutrality. Perhaps when the war troubles begin, he ask for conscription to strengthen army in case of war. I'm not sure of his reaction a Lusitiana sinking, it might be up to the cabinet.

One thing is for sure though: Taft's stress and health would get worse, maybe killing him before 3/4/1917.
