Switzerland in Red Europe

Suppose that for some reason the Allies fail to properly invade Europe and the Russians reach the Bay of Biscay.

ASB or not, how would Switzerland be affected in this scenario. Would it be seen as the island of capitalism in a red sea, or attacked by the Communists for its ideological blashpemy?

Neither - if Switzerland is surrounded by one party, and there is no realistic hope of relief, the Swiss will peacefully adapt to the new realities - the question isn't what the Swiss wan't, but what Stalin does... As the sole possible trading partner, unified communist Europe has quite a bit of leverage, and therefore coercing a 'popular front' government as a first step to the Swiss Peoples Republic isn't that difficult...

Conversely, Switzerland becomes the European Hong Kong, the capitalist gateway to the communist 'mainland', with migration in and out strictly controlled.

Switzerland's hardly a port, though...granted, its financial industry isn't dependent on access to the outside world so much, but...

Well, the Russians definantly would not even think of attacking. Switzerlands heavily armed neutrality and defensive terrain and the enevitable high casualty rate and international out cry would never be worth subduing it, no matter what country you are.

They would probably intimidate them into a more pro-Soviet government, like with Finland. the Swiss would remain independant, but would do nothing to anger the Soviets.

After conquering Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal etc etc etc i don't think the "international out cry" for the attack on Switzerland would matter at all. The whole world would be changed dramatically. Besides for all their bravery, Geneva and Zurich would be obliterated in a couple of hours.

To the OP:
If the Russians decide (being almost ASB as you've said) to spread communism in Europe then i don't find it believable that a small, completely sorrounded country would be allowed to live in peace in capitalism. A far left government would be installed without violence, then after a few years purged and made into a communist one (like they did in all occupied countries).

What do you mean conquer? The Russians were "liberating" them. There hardly was a dramatic, world shattering outcry against the USSR's defacto annexation of eastern Europe.

I think i haven't made myself clear.... I meant that with such a change in international affairs caused by a USSR "liberation" of Western
Europe there would be no outcry, much as it happened when the USSR "liberated" Eastern Europe.

There is a small chance that Switzerland becomes a kind of buffer between Western influences and Soviet influences. The one place Allied and Soviet diplomats can meet without controversy.

Of course, being isolated like that it would have a Red goverment, much like the Lublin thingy in Poland.
