Quick intro from Wikipedia:
The Age of Liberty (Swedish: Frihetstiden) is the half century long experiment with a parliamentary system and increasing civil rights in the period from Charles XII's death in 1718 to Gustav III's coup d'état in 1772. The shift of power from the Monarch to the Parliament was a direct effect of the disastrous Great Northern War.

When using the term Parliamentarianism it must, however, be noted that 18th century Sweden was in no way a democracy as known to the 20th century. Although the taxed peasantry was represented in the Parliament, their influence was disproportionately small while commoners without taxed property had no suffrage at all.

What if Gustav III's coup either fails or doesn't happen? The first option would result in the king under arrest, not sure how that would work at all. The second option would be based on the king not finding enough support in the right places to go ahead with the coup.

The idea is to keep the Riksdag in power for at least another couple of generations. What are the likely long term effects? the system was iirc easily influenced by outside powers so Sweden could be more erratic in its allegiances in foreign affairs. Domestically... I have no clue. Anyone with knowledge who can shed some light on that area?
