Surviving Russian Empire TLs?

Hi everyone,

so whilst Stars and Sickles remains my flagship TL, I was considering starting one involving a surviving monarchist Russia. I'm sure the topic has already been done many times, but I'd like to have a look at other timelines on the topic to see whether my ideas have anything that isn't already covered. I still have yet to figure out whether or not to make the POD the very beginning of the twentieth century or the end of the 19th, but I figured I'd post this here because the main part of any relevant TLs would be in the 20th century.

johnboy's non-ASB timeline I believe, involves a Tsarist Russia that does better in the Russo-Japanese War.

Then there's other timelines, that I can't remember. :(

There is many good TLs where is surviving Russian Empire, but I don't remember is there any good surviving Russian Empire TL with POD of 1900. And it would be pretty difficult, perhaps almost impossible to save the empire anymore after 1900.

I have done one with a POD in 1904. Make of it what you will.

It looks great! Gonna check it out and see how closely it coincides with my ideas. Would be a long time before I get around to doing it because of the amount of research, and writing one myself would have little purpose if your TL has a lot of parallels with my ideas.

I hope you like it. You have some reading in front of you

i'm currently working on a TL which involves Russia remaining a tsarist state due to some butterflies of earlier conflicts which prevent the Bolsheviks from coming to power. it eventually becomes a constitutional monarchy.

Sounds somewhat similar to what I was thinking of. Care to PM me? We could even collaborate on a TL or something like that.

Lots of POD,they include: Russia releasing the serfs and industrialising earlier;Alexander II successfully establishing a proper elected Duma before he died;Russian winning the Russo-Japanese War;Nicholas not restricting franchise and actually giving the Duma power;Russian winning the Battle of Tannenberg and driving deep into Germany;Russia having better transport systems(the irony about the starvation which caused the revolutions was that Russia was actually having bountiful harvest at the time, but poor transportation meant that food could not be delivered given that priorities were given to transporting troops and military equipment);the Tsarevich not having haemophilia(this means that Rasputin would not be in charge when the empress became the nominal regent when Nicholas tried to lead the army in the front);Nicholas not actually leading the army himself(this was a major one,he didn't really control the army himself but delegated it some incompetent general but get blamed nonetheless because he assumed the role of commander-in-chief himself after sacking his cousin from that post);Nicholas abdicating to his brother much earlier(Nicholas was an idiot, with him out of the way, things would be much better,by the time he actually did abdicate to his brother,it was far too late).

There are a alot of ways. Any one of POD would have prevented fall of empire (i did not include those others mentioned before)

- Bloody Sunday is averted (tsar accepts the petition, even if does nothing with it). Without October revolution, Russia can fight war of attrition against Japan, and win.
- Have Nicolas actually order to execute bolsheviks and other revolutionaries, rather than send them to vacation to siberia (tsarists did not put political prisoniers to gulags like soviets did later). Without leaders, popular revolt will be easy to handle.
- in 1917 have Nicolas abdicate to his cousin Grand Nicolas Nicolaeivich, who was general very popular with the army, instead of to his meek brother Michael. With strong leadership Russia could hold out until Germany surrenders.
- Don't get involved in WWI at all. Russia had little to gain from it.
- Have George Romanov not die in 1899. He was much beloved and intelligent person, and would be very moderating influence on Nicolas.

Thanks for the replies everyone, but I am aware of the myriad of valid PoDs (in fact choosing the best PoD is the most difficult part, given how many there are). Hopefully that didn't come across passive-aggressive :p

It was more that I was looking for TLs so that I didn't accidentally "step on someone's toes" so to speak.
