Surviving Progressive Party?

How could this be done? What would the results be in the long term?

I recently read that during the Wilson administration Congress passed the both the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Sedition Act of 1918 to suppress anti-war movements and jail those who criticized the Wilson administration's handling of the war. They more or less used these acts to cripple the power of the socialists in the nation (who were seriously growing in strength) through the arrests and prosecutions of its members (up to and including Eugene V. Debs, the leader of the Socialist Party of America).

Now, supposing the Progressives win out, does this help the Socialists? Or does the Progressive Party take the wind out of Socialism in America by addressing some of its concerns? Could there even be a merger of the parties?

How strong could the Bull Moose get?

Edit: Just realised I posted this in the wrong section. I meant to post it in the post-1900. Much apologies.
