At one point in history, much of what we call the Mid-Atlantic states were originally colonized by the Dutch (and a small colony called New Sweden). We're talking large portions of New York,New Jersey,Delaware,Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Basically colonized to take part in the lucrative North American Fur Trade, but also allowed many religious sects, but was ceded to Britain at the end of the Anglo-Dutch War. So what are the many butterflies of New Netherland staying in Dutch hands? Especially considering how influential and powerful Pennsylvania and New York were at the start of the French and Indian Wars.
