I think it's not clear how much of a base of support there was for the Ming. one of the mroe striking things to me, at least, is how quickly the Ming state collapsed, compared to the song Dynatsy.
I will grant that the Khitan state was less developed than the Manchus, and the ming were coming off of decades of instability, but it is still striking that the Qing did as well as they did.
Still, it's not insurmountable. But you might wanna go early, and avoid the control of the eunuchs in the court.
