Surviving Gran Columbia and effects

Hello
I was browsing a liitle today and came across an extinct nation called Gran Columbia, a nation that was comprised of Columbia, Venezula, and Eucador. Is there anyway it could have survived? Like a different Bolivar? And what would be the effects of it surviving and thriving? That venezulian oil and columbian gold could be interesting, along with a canal through panama..:D

The likelihood of Gran Colombia surviving is pretty low, honestly. The area was rather large and difficult to control, and there were significant differences between the constituent states (Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador had been administered separately since long before independence: Colombia was a viceroyalty, Venezuela a captaincy, and I don't recall if Ecuador was as well...).

Considering the short-lived nature of other similar unions in Latin America post independence (United States of Central America, Peru-Bolivian Union, greater Argentina...), it's hard to imagine it surviving. I do seem to recall though that it was mainly the death of Bolivar which led to the collapse, and maybe if he lives longer, it might have enough time to solidify, and maybe allow for it to survive.

Agree with Minifidel

Gran Colombia was fighting a ton of Venezuelan rebels, whom exposed the weak government. If Bolivar maybe had permission to completely crush the rebellion rather than peacefully negotiate them back into Gran Colombia, maybe, as it could make the population less vulnerable to rebellion; and they would have to be under a dictatorship until the people were under control. But, it would still be a long shot, for all the reasons Minifidel said. That's the only shot I think they would have of making it to today; and I would guess the odds are around 100:1 at least of that actually working out.
