Surviving Aragon discussion

So, let's talk about surviving Kingdom/Republic ( never mind ) of Aragon.

Here's a map: https://ibb.co/VNBZckT

Aragon ( in red )
Kingdom of Leon ( in blue )
Navarre ( in green )

So, let's have a talk about Aragon, let's say what would their armed forces look like today?

I presume that capital city would be Barcelona ( at least in fact, if not formally ), language would be Catalan ( but named as Aragonese )... Let's also presume that their relations with their neighbours ( Leon, France and Navarre ) would be at least as cordial as OTL between Spain and Portugal.

Why would they call Catalan Aragonese when Aragonese was already a language that existed and was used in the western part of the Kingdom?

Well, I presume that as dominant language in that country will be OTL Catalan, if the name of the country is Aragon, then the dominant language will be named as Aragonese. Never mind that real Aragonese exists, I presume that they would name real Aragonese as some Western Aragonese dialect. Something like Castillian language being named as Spanish.

What’s the POD?

Exactly, what time period are we talking about? Does Aragon never join with Castile? Is their union only a one generation thing? Did Leon somehow become the dominant Iberian state? We're missing a lot of important context.

It would appear that Aragonese once extended over most of inland Aragon.
Logically then this could be the official language, and Catalan could suffer exclusion and fade away from Aragonese territory.

A refinement of this.
It seems that Aragonese, Catalan and Castillian all expand southward over time. So Aragon taking Catalonia and holding it to the present day must exert a pressure to speak the official language.

About the PODs, well, maybe Leon manages to crush the attempts of Castille and Portugal to become independent early on. So, these countries are never formed and stay part of Leon.

Let's say, Fernan Gonzalez drops dead before having any issue.
Alfonso I of Portugal falls from his horse in 1128, after defeating his mother, and break his neck.

How would it guarantee that Aragon would never unite with Leon?

Better have John of Girona (born and died in 1509) son of Feedinand II of Aragon and Germaine de Foix survive to adulthood.

Don't know, but it's a start.
That POD is interesting, but I would like to keep Kingdom of Leon.

To have a Kingdom of Aragon with the borders of the map that you have shown we need a POD after the Treaty of Elche in 1305 in which Aragon snatched a part of the Kingdom of Murcia from Castile which was incorporated into the Kingdom of Valencia. At that time it had been a long time since Castile and Portugal had become independent from Leon.

Well it's possible that Aragon manages to snatch that part from Leon too.

To prevent Castilla from becoming independent from Leon we would need a POD in the 10th-11th centuries, and in that case the butterflies would make the Kingdom of Aragón not exist at all, or that wouldn’t be united with the County of Barcelona or that it would be very different ITTL.
