Survival of the Kingdom of Fiji?

This entity here.

Can Fiji manage to avoid the problems that led to its annexation historically? It's obviously treading a very, very fine line in the 19th century. One POD seems to be if its warlord king Seru Cakobau can successfully avoid blame for the burning of the home of an American. Then he wouldn't have a debt hanging over his head through most of his rule.

Obviously Cakobau and his descendents will be very dependent on foreign aid, but can Fiji manage to last long enough to maintain independence, or is it destined to suffer the same fate as the Kingdom of Hawaii?

That's the most obvious one. But could Fiji potentially remain independent, if in name only, perhaps by playing off the powers who might be interested in it (Britain, France, the US, later Germany and possibly Japan)?
