Hey everyone, I wanted to know if you have any ideas to help me with an alternative history project I have in mind and have already written some things about. I plan to create a scenario where World War I ends in a stalemate around early 1916 (but I'm open to other dates as well). My main goal is to have Austria-Hungary survive the war and stabilize until the present day.
My idea is to have them win a civil war against the Magyars and establish a quadruple monarchy: Bohemia-Moravia, Austria, Hungary, and Illyria, but as a federated state with a central government, similar to Brazil or the United States. I believe that a federalization that grants significant autonomy to all sides might lead to the dissolution of the empire.
My plan is to have the empire create a central government to oversee the country, with a bicameral parliamentary system where all people have the right to vote and participate in the government. Each crown would have limited autonomy, the right to use their own language for daily activities and official documents, manage internal economy, security, etc. German would remain the official language, but each group would have the right to learn their own language, with equal weight given to both.
I know that this is challenging, as the Magyars and the German elite would not be pleased with this arrangement, and other ethnic groups might fear a concentration of power. However, in this scenario (with the USSR existing and the Allies fearing that Germany would absorb the Cisleithania and become more powerful if Austria-Hungary falls), the people of the empire might become afraid of separating, and there might be support from Germany and the Allies to keep Austria-Hungary united (the Allies may fear that the USSR would absorb some states if the Habsburg Empire collapses).
Note: I'm not entirely sure yet, but I intend to have Galicia-Lodomeria go to Poland if it comes under the rule of a Habsburg (I don't think it's a good option for the Polish throne, but rather a Habsburg who is fluent in Polish, as I believe there is one who is very fluent and currently resides in the country).
I'm open to providing more information about this scenario and welcome all opinions. Feel free to go beyond the scenario I've developed.
I apologize for my poor English. I'm Brazilian and particularly unfamiliar with the English language, but I'm always following the scenarios you guys develop.
