Suleiman the Magnificent incorporates Greater Iran into the Ottoman Empire

On the second campaign of 1548, Suleiman anticipates the scorched Earth Campaign and prepares for it and plans a long seven year campaign to incorporate all of Greater Iran into the Ottoman Empire.

For sake of Argument he succeeds though it ends up taking ten years rather than the seven he planned for.

How would holding Greater Iran up to where it meets the Mughal border effect the Ottomans? Granted much of it would have been laid to waste by the Saffavids.

It would put Persian rulers in place first of all. Second of all it all depends on what the reaction of the Shiites would be. There would be a nice explaining that the Ottoman Empire was nice to all religions. So if it could hold on to the place for 50 years or so... it would slowly maybe even be Sunni again (since it wasnt Shiite for too long by that time).

The area wouldnt have problems with Ottomans per se, since its just another Turkish ruler like it has always been .

This sounds like something that will consume a large amount of Ottoman resources. Can they pull this off while Hungary still needs to be subdued, the Portuguese are moving into the Persian Gulf, France is relying on Ottoman support, and so on?

Suleiman was a great leader, but I don't think he can accomplish this without setbacks elsewhere.

I think it was actually Sultan Selim I who wanted to unite the Ottoman Empire with the East. Actually uniting all Muslim countries.

Can Suleiman take more territory out of Safavid hands? Hell yes.
Could he obtain other concessions? Most definately.
Can he take greater Iran? I guess it is possible, but he will achieve setbacks in other places

Suleiman continued his father's conquests, invading the Safavids lands three times, and annexing Mesopotamia.

Hungary is a definite, and his invasion of Malta will definitely not go forward, at the top of my head.
