Suggestions For TL

I'm writing a novel set in near future (circa 2020 or so) in an alternate world where the British Empire survived. The timeline diverges from our own when a peaceful solution to the tax crisis is found and the American Revolution doesn't happen. By the present day the two great empires are the British Empire and the Russian Empire who are in a cold war. The Russians control all of Eurasia, dominate Europe and the Middle East, and occupy Alaska. The British control the rest of North America, India, and vast colonies in Africa. They both are modern as OTL in tech and stable. So any suggestions?

I have a hard time seeing Russia as dominating the whole of Eurasia. You migh want to check out the world of The Two Georges by Harry Turtledove. There are a few highly questionable things about it, but the geo-political situation there by and large makes sense (3-way cold war between Britain, Russia, and a Franco-Spanish bloc).

Well in my timeline France becomes backward after it falls into civil war.

You can have my idea, it doesnt involve modern tech. The idea is a plague comes from an asteriod or comet fragment in around early 1800's. This plague limits the growth of the world and keeps it at a mid 1800's tech level up through the new millenium. Fragments land in France, Russia, and the western portions of the U.S.
