Succession to Carlos II, if he had a surviving older sister?

Now otl, Philip IV had only two surviving children from his marriage to Elisabeth of France: Balthasar Carlos who died in 1646, and Maria Theresa, who married Louis XIV. But say, Philip IV's daughter Maria Anna Antonia born 1636 survived, keeping certain butterflies to a minimum, when it comes time for negotiating a peace deal, between Spain and France, would it be Maria Anna who is married to Louis XIV instead of Maria Theresa, and would Maria Theresa then perhaps be scheduled to marry Leopold? If so, how does this influence the Spanish succession, particularly if Carlos II is the only surviving son of Felipe IV of Spain and especially if Maria Anna is forced to renounce her succession rights as her sister did otl?

If Maria Anna Antonia survives, then by 1654 she would be 18, and she would be scheduled to marry or even married circa 1653 to Ferdinand IV (and then maybe to Leopold when Ferdinand dies). She is more senior than Maria Theresa, and the whole Spanish rights of Maria Theresa suddenly become a relative non-issue as it's a SENIOR princess who is married to a Habsburg and who cares about junior line? This is double win for Spain. And butterflies and/or merges with the Dutch War the OTL Devolution War.

Okay interesting, so Maria Theresa likely goes off to Louis XIV then as per otl, or perhaps to someone else.

I imagine then that Felipe would be able to breathe slightly easier, especially if Maria Anna, and Ferdinand/Leopold have around three to four kids.

The OTL match is a go, I think, since the peace treaty needs to be signed.
Interesing thing is that Maria Anna would be LESS related to Ferdinand/Leopold than Maria Theresa is to Louis XIV - just a first cousin instead of double first cousin. So 3-4 surviving kids is a good estimate.

Alright awesome, and I suppose as well that any kids they have would also be named heirs to Carlos II, if he even comes to exist here.

I wonder if having two children when Baltasar Carlos dies makes Felipe settle for a less incestous option of Maria Leopoldine of Austria? I think what needs to happen for this is Baltasar Carlos predecesasing the first wife of his uncle Ferdinand III by a couple of months. Though that's a very different PoD in itself.

Oh? What makes you say that Baltasar needs to predecease the first wife of his uncle?

The fact that if Baltasar Carlos dies before his aunt, Maria of Spain, dad's going to have to remarry sooner rather than later. So, if Maria of Spain lasts a bit longer or BC a bit shorter, it would become impossible for Ferdinand III to marry Maria Leopoldina or it is more likely that Felipe IV would go after the already of-age Leopoldina than the still pretty young Mariana.

Should it be Ferdinand who marries Maria Anna Antonia, or Leopold?

Ferdinand first. From what I've read, Leopold was originally intended to end up in the church if Ferdinand had survived and left issue.

Ah i get you, is that marriage more likely to produce healthy kids then?

And alright interesting keeping Ferdinand IV alive and healthy would definitely have interesting consequences for the empire

Which would naturally change the balance if Europe is their kids are healthy and hale as no worry over succession. Could she survive past 1649 then perhaps to the 1660s?

That depends on WHY they have the Cesarean section done to her. There are some indications for this (i.e. narrow pelvis as in case of my mom) that demand it to be done to otherwise healthy women. If it's this and not weird positioning of fetus that necessitated CS for her, then alas she's limited to one healthy child (as CS back then was lethal for mother, no exceptions).

Ah I see, and if there was no need for CS at all? Unless of course that was always going to be a necessity.
