So, I'm sure everyone on this board has heard of William Walker the Southern American from Tennessee who conquered Nicaragua, became president of that country and was later ousted by the rest of the Central American powers. If you aren't here's a Wikipedia article on him https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Walker_(filibuster) here. As president Walker made English Nicaragua's official language, re instituted slavery, and encouraged a mass settlement of the country by Americans, presumably southerners. So my question is, what if by some miracle William Walker was successful not only in holding on to power in Nicaragua but also in his Americanization policy turning the country into a slave state dominated by southern plantation owners? I'm thinking of a scenario where after the Confederacy is defeated there's a mass exodus from the reconstruction south into Nicaragua by ex confederates and plantation owners or even the former Confederate government in exile causing a massive white population to settle the country and a Confederate government and culture to develop there. How would such a state develop into the modern era, what would its history be like? Any thoughts are welcome.
