Successful spanish invasion of cambodia

So in the 1590s a few Spanish adventurers attempted to conquer Cambodia. This expedition ended in failure four years later.

What if more troops were sent and the Spanish successfully conquered Cambodia?

How would a Spanish foothold in south east asia affect future history in the region?

The Spanish were propping up the Cambodian king against his rivals, and eventually they got outcompeted by said rivals and all were killed. A serious expedition (maybe involving the Cambodian king converting to Christianity, like a later Cambodian king converted to Islam) would more likely provoke an invasion by the Thai (probably by the early 1600s) under King Naresuan, who had already defeated Cambodia to great success several years before and were already doing a great amount of damage to the Burmese in that period.
