Successful reconstruction

Kick
The lesson from WW2 is to be the lesser evil.

The (West) Germans settled down as part of the democratic world because they had Joseph Stalin breathing down their necks.

The ACW equivalent would be if Haiti was some ten or twenty times as big as OTL, and the Union won the war in alliance with it. Then Southerners would have accepted Northern reconstruction as an infinitely lesser evil to what the Haitians would do.

But OTL there was no "worse" to keep them clinging to the northern "nurse", so it was just a matter of waiting for hurse to gt distracted.
Yep, that's why I suggested taking apart South Carolina.

Seriously, if there's one man, Fifty Years later, who's STILL calling himself a South Carolinian, you shoot him dead, in the street ...

And for Best Effect, you make his family watch!

War is HELL!

I thought the lesson of WW2 was just kill their male population in mass until they can't resist anymore?
That's certainly what the Germans attempted to do to the French, in the First War ...

Judging by the Second, it sure worked as Advertised for Metropolitan France!

If an Admin wishes, I will remove the post ...

However, it won't change the historical records of such acts ...

If anything, those have been worse, and continue to this very day.

As a part Black man, I am fully aware how horrible those historical acts were.

Still doesn't justify cold blooded murder.

It absolutely doesn't ...

But it is how repressive regimes, enforce not just political thought, but the Correct Political Thought.

A couple of years ago, my Girlfriend helped me to research where my Last Name originated ...

We traced it back, to a small Village, of about 2,000 people, in what was then Austria-Hungary, but is now in the Ukraine.

It turned out, to have been COMPLETELY wiped out, in the Holocaust ...

In the bloodless parlance of the times, the Community was unable to be re-constituted after the War.

I'm not sure emulating repressive regimes is necessarily what we want to be doing here, nor do I think that would fulfill the OP's criteria of a successful Reconstruction.

I would think the idea submitted awhile back of carving a Freedman's Territory out of part of Indian Territory would be a better idea that would probably have been politically feasible for the time, too.

your comment about South Carolinians was incredibly offensive.

Oderint dum metuant, let them hate, so long as they fear ...

That it happens, is NOT what keeps me up, this late at night ...

What does that, is how WELL it works.

Then again, Caligula was assassinated, partly by men who supported his Uncle.

Who then, had his assassins executed ...

An early version of, your mileage may vary!

Mea culpa, the intent was to shock ...

In a Time-Line with a Revoked State, anyone attempting to re-create it, or even thinking of re-creating it, will likely be subject to a Summary Judgement, of precisely that sort.

Harry Turtledove covers a similar time-frame in his book, In at the Death ...

The entire city of Charleston, South Carolina, is made to pay for the sins of the Confederacy in Nuclear Fire ...

With no better reason given than, "It all started here, boys."

Again, apologies to anyone offended, and the post will be removed, if it is required.

The first rule of holes is to stop digging.

Why?

OTL, even the political disabilities imposed by Sec 3 of the 14th Amendment were rescinded (by a Republican Congress) as early as 1872. So they ain't likely to be executing anybody for mentioning the name of a State - or indeed for any political offence.

And how does partitioning SC help? Both GA and NC were effectively "redeemed" by 1871, so if SC is split between them it is probably redeemed earlier than OTL.

Here is one.

Have Dee different Southerners write the dominant narrative of post war history. Instead of having Josh Gordon and Jubal Early filling people with notions of a romantic defeat and how they only lost due to numbers and how awful the Yankees were, have James Longstreet, Porter Alexander, Cleburne (the Confederate I most wish a long happy atl), Bedford Forrest with an earlier face heel turn saying the south lost, and we now have to bring prosperity by doing something different and holding onto the past won't work.

At the risk, of re-viving a dead discussion:

You quite correctly remarked, that the WAllies method of De-Nazification, required Stalin as a Bug-Bear ...

The Soviet methods of De-Nazification, OTOH ...

You've been here long enough to know that lurid murder fantasies have no place on this board.

Kicked for a week.

- - - are irrelevant, since no conceivable US government would have employed them - certainly not against white people.

It's almost like Southerners are our brothers and countrymen. Thank God this sort of nonsense didn't gain much traction.
