Successful Rebellions of 1837

Canada would probably be a democratic republic today, instead of a democratic dominion. Either that, or (less likely), the republic fails and it joins America instead. ;)

Polk or whatever his ATL counterpart would probably end up successfully invading at some point if not

Bad news for Canada, great news for the US. Canada won't be able to stop the US from taking the 54th parallel or basically all of Western Canada.

But would we necessarily need.....or even, *want* the prairies? TBH, the southern half of *B.C. is certainly quite understandable, with a few additional Pacific ports and all(Victoria & Vancouver in particular, and Kitimat, and Prince Rupert to a lesser extent). But, until the 20th century, there wasn't really much to be interested in out west(except oil).

Or they'd follow Texas' example and try nationhood for a while before asking to join the Union and force interesting things to happen in US expansion.

Oh, well if the Canadians don't care about having the largest oil reserves in North America....:D

I doubt it. The Texans were nearly all recent American immigrants. The Canadians, on the other hand, were mainly British immigrants who had fought a war against the United States only 20 years earlier.

1) incredibly unlikely to happen. Especially in Upper Canada the number of people involved was small. MacKenzie's force was only 400, armed with fowling pieces, etc. against 1000 armed troops.

2) this has been discussed before. As recently as a week ago. Here are some links

True, but the Americans themselves were at war with France not even that before the Revolution, and while seeking aid is different then seeking admittance, the existence of American sympathizers in their ranks and the shorter distance between America and Canada, both geographically and ideologically, could have made up some of that difference. Besides, the harsh realities of trying to be a government post-rebellion, meaning their likely war debts, might have given them the same motivation and hard wake up call it did to the Texans, who themselves were trying to get away from America as it was then and only later found out how hard it was to run their own country was.

Either way you cut it, it's an Ameriwank.

The northerners will want western Canada. Think of all the free states that can be created there!

The southerners will give birth to a cow and try to eat northern Mexico proper.

I count America gaining an additional inch of land compared to OTL a wank....
