Successful Operation Savannah how large would an MPLA insurgency be

Operation Savanna can't succeed as the Cubans and Soviets were already involved while the South Africans didn't invest many troops in, nor do I think Pretoria has the stomach for a full blown invasion at the moment considering they were trying to negotiate with FRELIMO in Mozambique at the time.

Angola would probably be much poorer if UNITA was in charge. The real issue is the long standing civil war that wrecked the country's agriculture economy and colonial infrastructure, rather than the MPLAs policy.

Would an earlier operation savannah been more successful

Wouldn't the MPLA have much harder time operating given the only base of operation would have been Zambia given both Zaire and South Africa were allied to UNITA
