Successful 1969 Saudi Arabian coup

If the new regime was able to stay in power, the consequences would be significant. There would be less financial support to radical Islam. Since this is 10 years before the OTL Iranian revolution, the revolution could be butterflied, although it might still happen, due to weakening of the regime. Probably the USA would be even more keen on supporting the Shah, as the new regime in Saudi-Arabia (which would probably change its name) would not be as close to the US. An interesting question is how this would effect the Israel/Palestine conflict.

The new regime - the Arab Republic of Arabia? - would have to come to an understanding with political Islam, as even Nasser had to do so in Egypt.

Would the US encourage the shah to violently put down the protests and to stay in power

This scenario could lead to many butterflies. If a revolt in Iran happened, it might happen at a different time and other persons could in theory win elections in the US. If we assume that Jimy Carter, or someone with the same political ideals, was president, he would probably experience even more pressure to be supportive of the shah than Carter did in OTL. The shah did use violence against the protesters, but eventually parts of the armed forces switched side.

But Nasser didn´t send economic assistance to wahhabi extremists in other countries.

Didn't he stop due to international and domestic pressure. I was thinking he could continue trying to violently suppress the protests and or get more brutal

I wonder what effect this would have on North Yemen? North Yemen's royalists had been fighting with Saudi support, so they're pretty much defeated with the end of the House of Saud. And since both regimes are Arab nationalists, I think it's likely they attempt some sort of federation.

I must admit it is some time since I read about this (I was only 7 at the time, so my knowledge is from history books), so I cannot recall the details. Maybe someone else can tell?

I wonder would this Republic of Arabia join something like the United Arab Republic?

OTL there was such a state consisting of Egypt and Syria (1958-1961), but it did not last, as Egypt became totally dominant. I doubt that post-Saudi Arabia, with its oil would be any more interesting to submit under Nasse.
