Could Ethiopia end up as republic ?If the 1960 coup attempt had been successful, it might've resulted in Ethiopia becoming an actual Constitutional Monarchy under Amha Selassie but it could've also taken other paths.
It could but I don't see if that would happen, considering those behind the 1960 coup attempt supported retaining the Ethiopian Monarchy.Could Ethiopia end up as republic ?
I imagine a more left wing Ethiopia maybe land reform other then that I'm not sure@Noscoper, what do you think Ethiopia would look like with a successful 1960 coup?
Perhaps we see Ethiopia acquiring support from the USSR?I imagine a more left wing Ethiopia maybe land reform other then that I'm not sure
If Ethiopian Monarchy remains it's likely that Ethiopia remains in the American orbitPerhaps we see Ethiopia acquiring support from the USSR?
Perhaps but you might see an effort at establishing closer relations with Moscow to secure financial and material support. If Ethiopian Monarchy remains it's likely that Ethiopia remains in the American orbit
True but I doubt it will move to the Soviet Sphere of influencePerhaps but you might see an effort at establishing closer relations with Moscow to secure financial and material support.
It'll probably remain mostly pro-Western but I'd like to know - how could TTL be affected by a more democratic/Constitutional Monarchist Ethiopia?True but I doubt it will move to the Soviet Sphere of influence
Land reform is super-underrated as a vaccination against peasant support for communism and a boost for industrialization. The communists in Russia, China, and Ethiopia all promised land reform but effectively repealed it a few years later with collectivization of agriculture that killed millions.I imagine a more left wing Ethiopia maybe land reform other then that I'm not sure

A large class of land-owning, self-sufficient farmers can grow subsistence for their families as well as specializing in different crops for the market, building up savings that can be invested in capital goods and heavy industry by a private banking system.
Ethiopia's relationship with Israel has already been established - in fact, Israel was one of the reasons why the 1960 coup never succeeded.Perhaps a relationship with Israel. Bulwarks of faith and modernity
