a period of unification wars like the ones seen in Italy, and wars ower border disputes, and then a move thowards some kind of pan european integration?
it would depend much on what kind of ideologies would prevail in wich nations
the move was thowards nationalism, but republicanism was relatively liberal compared to most royalist movements
still there would be a lot of misunderstanding and conflict as the national thing was not yet reflected in the demografics of any larger region, so there would be good chance of ethnic conflict and subsequent animosity
posibly the big wars of the 20th century would be avoided as the isues concerned would get worked out before 1914
the balkans during and shortly after the balkan wars could be a good comparison to what europe after sucesfull 1848 could of been like, keeping in mind the social and economical as well as culturall diferences
