with 128mm cannon was ready in March 1942, used the Henschel 32 ton medium tank prototype chassis that program was abandoned for a heavier tank that became the Tiger.

Going with a lighter 88/L71 would allow some armor, though not up to Ferdinand class.
The chassis was not mass produced and the gun heavily overburdened the chassis, which is why they only stuck with 2 prototypes.

Would it have worked with an adapted 105mm AA gun?

They only built 4 chassis in 1940/41. two were modified into SPGs, the others stayed at the Henschel factories as tractors

105mm is still a bit of overkill, though. The Nazis didn't need to go past the 88mm/L71
