Strangely ignored discussion: NATO v. Warsaw Pact

Yes, I know the winner of such a conflict would have a lot of variables, so let's simplify it.

Kennedy not assassinated, no Vietnam War, no New Left. Cold War doesn't show any sign of stopping.

June 1st, 1975. For whatever reason, World War 3 starts between the two blocs. The aggressor is debatable enough that morale is high on both sides. Conventional warfare only.

Who wins?

Dammit, I suck at starting wars.

Alright, assume that, with some sort of POD, WW3 happens at the above date. Same rules apply.

Bit difficult that given that American defence doctrine at the time was pretty much a tripwire and a nuclear response.

And knowing that, the Pact's plans involved using their entire NBC inventory from the very beginning of any war on basis of "Use It Or Lose It".

The OP mentioned this scenario seemed "strangely" ignored. Perhaps now they know why.
