Stopping Assyria?

What if the battle of Qarqar had been a crashing deefet to Assyria, Shalamaneser is dead and her army is destroyed?
Lets say that Hadadesr is killed during the battle and his army suffers most of the Casualties, Damascus is falling into a civil war and becomming an Israeli vassele state. Than what?

Why would Damascus fall into civil war?

And Shalamaneser did not accompany his army to the actual battle. Him dying is unlikely. Qarqar was not a decisive victory nor defeat; there were around a dozen more battles after it.

The POD is that Qarqar is a decisive victory, and Damascus fall into a civil war because her king is dead and he has no clear heir

It would be interesting if the great prestige afforded Ahab from a victory like that could lead into a reformation of the Israelite religion in the northern kingdom in favour of Baal. The victory could be interpreted as favour granted by the new god.

Jezebel is remembered as a beautiful diva of world history and wise queen :)
