My friend has been reading the book "Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson", so i thought i'd put this up.
Many people claim that Stonewall Jackson was a great military commander, was he really?
His successes in the Shenandoah Valley campaign and his flanking move at the Battle of Chancellorsville i see as brilliant. Some of the plans he offered, listed below, during the war however have me questioning his strategic thinking.
Plan's Jackson Proposed
- Invading North in mid October, 1861. Attack Baltimore and cutting off Washington.
- Invading North in June, 1862. Instead of going to support Lee near Richmond.
- Holding a defensive position east of Frederick, instead of moving into Maryland in September, 1862.
-Withdrawing from heights at Fredericksburg in December, 1862 and taking up a new position on the North Anna River.
