States renouncing their Senate seats

With not being American this may be a silly question.

What would have happened if a territory decided not only that it didn't want statehood but that it also wanted to forge its own way in the world rather than as part of the US? My suggestion would be that only somewhere west of the Rockies would try this.

Depends when and the circumstances, though overall the most likely result is Federal tropps deployed to it and the leaders arrested or exiled.

The big thing to remember is that the Territories were legally property of the Federal government and only self-governing in as much as the Federal government feels like giving them it.
 
That was supposed to be NOT represented. :mad: sigh!
Actually, each territory was represented in the House by a single non-voting delegate who usually did politicking and sometimes spoke in debates. Still, multiple voting Representatives would be a significant gain for a territory.
