star trek phase 2

in 1978, star phase 2 debuts on paramount t.v stations. the original cast except nimoy returns with new actors playing deckor xon and ilya shatner leaves after a payday disputeafter the first 13 episodes. the ratings are good the star trek phase 2 is a hit roddymcdowall guest stars, ricardo montbahn returns as kauhn. then in 2nd series the first episode the actor playing xon wants more a normal life then he ask to be killed off so he can do theatre and not a sci fi show. nimoy returns as mr. spock. the show is a hit but the cast want more money as the series continue over the years:eek:

Once upon a time in soc.history.what-if, I saw a timeline in which Star Trek Phase II ultimately produced a five-way network flagship space opera war between Star Trek Phase II/Exscelcior/Next Generation (UPN), Battlestar Galactica/Invasion:Earth (CBS), Buck Rogers (NBC), Galaxy Quest (ABC, Produced by Zucker, Abraham, and Zucker as a satire, and starring the OTL movie cast, except for Tawny Madison played by Pam Drawber, and Chief Engineer Chen played by Oscar Hsu. Frequent guest star is Leslie Nielsen as Admiral Larson), and Farscape(FOX). This would later spill over to produce duelling time travel shows (Time Tunnel, Quantum Leap, Voyagers, and Doctor Who starting with the Eight Doctor, Eric Idle plus Back to the Future on Saturday mornings.)

But for the life of me, I can't find it anywhere now...

In Star Trek: Phase II, you'd have a few things. First, Decker would probably not be played by the same guy who played him in the film; he was cast after the decision was made to make a film instead of a TV show, and he only did it because he liked the director. Illya was already cast, and so was Xon.

Overall, you'll have a different Star Trek canon. The Klingons we will see in Phase II will have an Emperor, and all that other stuff that was to be in the episode "Kitumba". And besides that, you'll see just completely different stuff. Everything after TOS and TAS will be different to at least some degree. Keep in mind, none of the canon was planned or thought out, and was just made up as they went along.

I also think you'll see a more limited Trek franchise. It'll still be popular, but because it's not locked up for 20 years, you won't see the explosion of the franchise and merchandising you saw in the 90's when you had so much crap and so many series. It also stands a better chance of being considered less hardcore nerd fodder and more of a hip show like it was seen as in the 60's when it came out. So I think you'll see Phase II last a few seasons (let's say 7 max), but that being mostly it for Trek on the small screen. Maybe you could get a spinoff or two, like a Gary 7 show finally coming about (and being something like the American Doctor Who, if you will). But that'll be it, at least for a while.

Yeah, Kalvan's ideas are borderline ASB. It was a damn good thing Phase II never happened. Plus, I love the Klingons the way they are in OTL.

I would have been fine with Phase II. It'd be a few more seasons (at least) of TOS, with a better budget and more respect from the network.
