Star Trek Batman Challange

This acualy cloud happen if Star Trek tos had run on ABC network instead NBC.
TV-program manager were quite mad in that time :p
and to horror of Roddenberry get a crossover, in exhange for more season of Star Trek tos.

on long term it would change the both franchise deeply
Star Trek get link to future of Batman world and fare future of the Legion of Super-Heroes
20 century Batman -> 23 century Star Trek -> 30/31 centruy the Legion of Super-Heroes

in real world Roddenberry would not very happy with this work "Warp" to this contraption
however the concept of a fare future were men evolve into "higher being" would have be a temptation for him to make a the Legion of Super-Heroes series as successor of Star Trek tos ?

Another change would be that DC comic end up in VIACOM instead of Warner
Because VIACOM hab buy the Star Trek production company and were als intresst in Crossover rights.
what let to buy them DC in 1970

with fan complaning: Dam that Batman XII movie, this time they realy kill the franchise...
or more horror: now on Nickelodeon: the Stak Trek babys

I should point out that I working on a Time Line called Step by step. It still in outline form. but I doing individual threads on part of the timeline before I put it all together.

Like the idea of Roddenberry doing a cross over to get a third season. Need to check dates. In the step by step timeline, Republic Television wil be producing both series.
Viacom will never get Star Trek.
You know that Filmation original plan for the Animated series had young kids on board with the crew. Howver when Roddenberry got involved the kid when away. But The Star Trek baby almost happen.
Since Roddenberry never does The Animated Series in my timeline. I may consider Legion as a animated series in the 1970.
I am planing David Gerold doing the Adam Strange Animated series in the 1977. He going to bring some of the Science Fiction writers that he got to write for Land of the Lost to do Adam Strange.

A quick and dirty timeline.

1953: The ABC-DuMont alliance goes through. (POD)

1958: They renew the alliance.

1963: The alliance ends.

1965: Kinney National Services, Inc. is founded.

1966: Kinney buys National Periodical Publications, Panavision, and DuMont.

1967: Kinney realized that they need production company for DuMont. They purchase some small companies and merge them together. Among the companies are Desilu and Greenways.

1968: During the summer, Star Trek and Batman[1] are canceled by their respective networks. DuMont picks them up. This move save DuMont some money by not having spend cash on developing two new series. Wanting to make a splash, the head of DuMont orders a special starring the characters from Batman and Star Trek.

1969: The two part special premieres at 8 pm on Tuesday, September 2. The first part is done as an episode of Batman. While the second is under the Star Trek banner. This is will be their respective time slots for the upcoming season. The episodes are not included with either show's syndication package. The special is sold as single movie.

[1] Originally, Batman was intended to be an hour show, but ABC only had two half-hour openings. So, they split the show up. In TTL, it remained a hour show.

That would work. Not bad.

It would indeed be kicked out of Star Trek canon, and wouldn't even be put into DC canon. Star Trek and DC will continue to have different owners, and even if they both fell into one company, they're unlikely to be merged into one continuity, because the owner might sell one property to another, and the story lines would have to be changed significantly to mesh well.

If there is a crossover, it would be a pretty interesting to watch though, like the times Batman met the Green Hornet, Scooby Doo, and the Addams family.

I wonder how it would effect both shows. I'm guessing it will be a good ratings boost for both, but wouldn't change the overall quality of the shows.

Having Adam West and William Shatner playing their most famous roles together could produce some hilarious episodes.

Does any one consider The Adam West Series to be part of Batman Continuity?

I Wouldn't be too sure about it being non-canonical.
With comics especially they tend to have all sorts of cross overs and with alternate universes and all that sort of thing...

With Trek....well this is TOS Trek, not the more serious TNG. TOS was basically just a random fantasy adventure story of the week show with the space travel and federation stuff as just a framing device.

Hey. Maybe we could make it so Batman is Kirk's ancestor? :p
