William II (27 May 1626 – 6 November 1650) was sovereign Prince of Orange and stadtholder of the United Provinces of the Netherlands from 14 March 1647 until his death three years later.
His advisary state pensioner Johan de Witt described him as the biggest and most ambistious states man the Netherlands could have had.
What would happen if he lives, let say another 20 or so years.
When would there be a war with Cromwell England, and would there be a 2nd Anglo-Dutch war since Charles II is his brother in law.
Would he wage a real war of conquest with the Prince Bishop of Munster about the Lutheran cit of Munster and other lands of the Prince Bishop.
Would he ally with France with the war agains Spain in the 1650ties or would he participate in the War of Devolution in the 1660ties or recognize the threat which Louis XIV can become for the United Netherlands.
Would he succeed in centralise the power of the Dutch Republic into a Federation or would he be hindered in his ambitions like his father by the merchant of Amsterdam.
I am looking forward to comments and suggestions.
