Split In The Federalist Party?

Anywhere from 1799 to 1800 there was turmoil in the Federalist Party, with the Hamiltonians being ousted from the party's leadership. I had the idea of a split in the party, creating three parties rather than two. How would such an event play out?

Earlier establishment of Dem-Republican dominance.

One thing I'm wondering is, who would be the candidate of the breakaway high federalist party (high federalist as in like Hamilton)? I've been searching through Wikipedia and found negligable sources as to the ideologies of Federalist politicians at the time.

Someone Hamilton could control, such as Charles Cotesworth Pinckney. Indeed, the primary reason the Federalists lost the election of 1800 was the split between Adams and Hamilton (among other things).
