Well, Doc Savage was more than likely one of the characters that influenced the creation of Indiana Jones. However, I have a feeling that they'd be more interested in creating their *own* character than buying someone else's -- sounds like they both had a chance to work on Superman, but turned it down. Of course, their *own* character would pretty much be Indiana Jones.
Perhaps one or both could somehow be involved in a consulting or producing role, although that still delays their other work a little bit. Their special effects teams would definitely help, but only after Star Wars was made.
There might be some other of the early Blockbuster directors who might have been willing to take it over. It sounds like the problem with the film was that it came out too campy, a better director would definitely help that. It might have to be delayed by just a couple of years to wait for the sci-fi/adventure films to become more dominant.
