Spartacus escapes!

So I was reading up on Spartacus, I learned about how he had two chances to escape.

The first was when he was approaching the border of Northern Italy, he could have left and made it to either Gaul or Hispania, where his army of escaped slaves could have joined the rebellion of Quintus Sertorius. However, he decided to turn back and plunder mroe Roman cities.

Also, after turning back, he made a deal with Cilician pirates to take his army to Sicily, but the cheated him and refused to take him.

So what if Spartacus had escaped? If he had made it to Quintus Sertorius, could the rebelion have been successful? Or could he and his slaves have survived in Sicily?

No, I am Spartacus!

If Spartacus and his army can get to somewhere like Gaul or Hispania, it seems likely they'd find an area on the Roman/Celtic frontier and try to conquer it and establish themselves, probably allying with the local Celtic tribes for protection against Rome.

Will the real Spartacus please stand up, please stand up. I repeat will the real Spartacus please stand up. Were going to have a problem. You acted like you never seen a real galdiator before.....no the Emperor's dead I killed him and locked him in the colloseium....

Hmmm seems possible by that point they were more or less combat vets and no doubt more then one member of his army was a Gaulish war- captive.

I am the Walrus...I mean Spartacus.

Sicily was the breadbasket of Rome. Holding a sword at that throat could lead to Rome letting them be in my opinion.

In one of the earlier discussions of the Sicilian option, someone commented that there are a lot of possible landing zones for a Roman reconquest force to land and Spartacus's army could not defend every one.

However, Sicily was also a powderkeg of huge numbers of oppressed slaves and excruciatingly corrupt officials. Spart would probably find many new recruits there.

If Spartacus managed to escape from Italy, Rome would still hunt him down as they did with Hannibal. Everywhere he goes he'll be followed. Everyone who grants him hospitality, is now an enemy of Rome.

He could "disappear" over the border into places like Britain, Germany, or Parthia, but will he leave everything he knows behind to do so? If so, Parthia would be a better choice for him, but can he get there?

I think once the rebellion broke out and those cohorts were defeated, Spartacus has been a dead man walking.
