Spanish Morocco?

How can Spain gain Morocco as a colony? I'm trying to work on a "better Spain" scenario; the main POD is that Tomasso (13 year old Duke of Genoa) is chosen as King after the glorious revolution. Butterflies mean Prim lives, and he becomes the regent for the boy King. That way the King of Spain is influenced in a positive way, with a heavy bias for Spanish culture, unlike the OTL King who quit. I know uber colonial wank fun kawaii time isn't the best route for stability, but my plans were for them to take Morocco and the Western Sahara. What's a good way to accomplish this?

OK WHY would Spain choose a boy-king? If they wanted to go that way they'd recall the Prince of Asturias (Alfonso XII). Hell having Alfonso XII live longer is a better and more realistic POD than the Cortes having a collective stroke and electing a minor who's not even Spanish. You could still have Prim survive if you wanted to, but no Italian underage King.

Because... They were going to IOTL? They actually invited him but his mother took away her consent. So.. Don't tell me what I can use as a POD in my own TL please

The point of the thread was ideas for a Spanish morocco, not to totally ignore that premise and hate on a perfectly good POD. Thanks.

If you're asking under realistic lines then having the Cortes choose that non-Spanish king out of all of their choices doesn't seem likely at all, no one (from what I've read) even considered him. The choices that were open where the Duke of Aosta, Isabelle's youngest son, Ferdinand II of Portugal (former regent), Duke of la Torre, and Baldomero Espartero.

If you're asking for ideas then we would want to know why you have things put out in a certain way. We aren't telling you what you have to have in your timeline, but we are asking questions and offering suggestions as to what would make it more realistic. If you want to write a time-line with the 13 year old Duke of Genoa as king then give us an explanation as to how it would happened.

Well actually General Prim offered the crown to the Duke of Genoa first before Amadeo. It was only after the Duke refused (really his family did so on his behalf)that Prim approached Amadeo. So, it is possible for the Duke to be chosen. However I don't see how a 13 year old would do any better than Amadeo, even if Prim lives, spanish politics at this time we're really chaotic and governments didn't last very long. I'd not see why Prim would be different.

Also to answer a point raised earlier in the thread. Alfonso wasn't really considered because many in the Cortes viewed all the Buorbons as corrupt and ineffective as Isabel II. That and the number of bourbon candidates (Luisa Fernanda, Montpisner, Alfonso) essentially prevented them from electing a bourbon as monarch.
